Questions
can be as
unique as ideas
Although the inventions tech companies create are unique, the legal questions and issues each company has are not unique. We’re often asked the same series of questions, depending on where the business is in its development. Technology entrepreneurs have enough tasks to handle in launching new products, so leave the legal mumbo jumbo to us.
If you’re asking yourself one of these questions, call us to discuss your options.
Many technology companies ask the following questions during various stages of their business:
- How can I protect my company’s intellectual property?
- How do I get funding for my business?
- Is crowdfunding right for my business?
- What type of business model is best for my company?
- Who can help me with licensing agreements?
- Should I file for a patent?
- When should I trademark my logo and other distinguishing characteristics of my business?
- Do I need to file anything to protect my trade secrets?
- Should I form a business if I’m still developing my product?
- We’re hiring our first employee; what do we do?
- How can I mitigate risks to my business before crowdsourcing?
- Should my business have a business plan?

Resources
All new businesses need to establish a network of resources to ensure their success, and tech startups are no exception. Strategic Solutions Legal has compiled this list of resources to help technology companies explore the various options available to them.
Early Business Management and Development
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network offers free consulting and workshops for startups at every stage — from business plan development to funding preparation. Most states host multiple SBDC locations with advisors who specialize in tech and high-growth companies.
Private Accelerators
Accelerator programs like Techstars and Y Combinator provide seed funding, mentorship, and networks in exchange for a small equity stake. Research programs specific to your industry and stage before applying.
Funding
Before approaching investors, research funding activity at AngelList and Crunchbase to understand how comparable companies have raised, who is investing in your space, and what terms to expect.
